Windhoek, 12 August 2024 – Telecom Namibia proudly announces the successful certification of 19 Technical Assistants (TAs) and Senior Technical Assistants (STAs) to Telecom Electricians (TEs).
The graduation ceremony, held at a local hotel in Windhoek, marked a significant milestone in Telecom Namibia's commitment to employee development, operational excellence, and addressing unemployment in the telecommunications sector.
Empowering Excellence for a Digital Future
The TA/STA to TE Programme, which ran from June 2022 until July 2024, is an in-house skills development initiative designed to address the critical shortage of skilled
Telecom Electricians. Participants underwent a rigorous two-year training programme that included both theoretical and practical components. The comprehensive curriculum covered various modules such as Principles of Basic Electricity, Data Communication, Optical Fiber Training, and the IT Fundamentals Certification by COMPTIA. In addition to formal training, participants received extensive mentoring and on-the-job training, ensuring they were well-prepared to meet the demands of their new roles.
A Commitment to Employee Development
During the ceremony, Dr Stanley Shanapinda, CEO of Telecom Namibia, emphasized the company's dedication to fostering talent and ensuring the professional growth of its employees. "Today marks an auspicious day for our Technical Assistants and Senior Technical Assistants as they will be recognized for their determination and hard work that enabled them to complete the TA/STA to Telecom Electrician certification programme," said Dr Shanapinda. "As you set out on this path of growth in your individual careers at Telecom Namibia, as Telecom Electricians, effective 01 July 2024, now is the time to unpack the practical skills obtained in the interest of our customers and to enhance TN’s service delivery."
Operational Excellence and Succession Planning
The successful completion of this programme not only highlights Telecom Namibia's commitment to continuous professional development but also addresses the need for succession planning within the company. By equipping TAs and STAs with the necessary skills to become TEs, Telecom Namibia ensures the sustainability of its technical operations and enhances service delivery to its customers. This proactive approach to succession planning supports Telecom Namibia’s strategic pillars of customer experience and operational efficiency, aligning with the theme of the graduation ceremony, "Empowering Excellence for a Digital Future."
Positive Impact on Employment
The TA/STA to TE Certification Programme is also a testament to Telecom Namibia's role in addressing unemployment in the country. By providing structured training and development opportunities, the company empowers its employees to advance their careers and contribute to the growth of Namibia's telecommunications industry.
