WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA – 17 April 2026 – Telecom Namibia wishes to inform its valued customers and the general public that some network services experienced temporary disruptions over the past few days due to technical challenges affecting international connectivity.
The disruption was the result of a failure on external connectivity routes, which placed increased pressure on alternative network paths. As a result, some customers experienced slower internet speeds and intermittent access to certain mobile data and browsing services.
Upon detection of the issue, Telecom Namibia’s technical teams responded immediately and have been working around the clock to stabilise the network and minimise customer impact. A number of corrective measures have already been implemented, with additional enhancements currently underway to restore normal service levels and strengthen the network against similar incidents in future.
Key actions being undertaken include:
- Redirecting network traffic to maintain service availability
- Upgrading and reconfiguring critical network equipment
- Strengthening capacity at major network nodes to improve overall resilience
Commenting on the disruption, Telecom Namibia Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, said: “We regret the inconvenience experienced by our customers during this period. While the disruption originated from external connectivity routes, our teams acted swiftly to stabilise services and implement safeguards to minimise impact. We remain fully committed to strengthening our network resilience and ensuring reliable connectivity for all our customers.”
Telecom Namibia is pleased to confirm that services are steadily stabilising, and customers should continue to experience noticeable improvements as restoration and optimisation work progresses.
