Windhoek, Namibia – August 22, 2024 – Telecom Namibia is significantly expanding its network infrastructure by deploying 77 new mobile base stations nationwide in the 2023/2024 FY. This ambitious project aims to enhance network coverage, capacity, and speed, benefiting both urban and rural customers.

As part of this initiative, Telecom Namibia successfully launched pilot sites in Cimbebasia and Kariba - Goreangab. The Cimbebasia and Kariba sites are already activated and are currently undergoing soak testing. To support these new base stations, the company is constructing backhaul fiber lines for optimal high-speed connectivity to the sites.

Telecom Namibia plans to complete the rollout of additional base stations in key locations by the end of January 2025. These sites are located in Windhoek (Eros, Cimbebasia, Khomasdal , Rocky Crest, and Golgota) as well as Mariental, Otjiwarongo, Otavi, Okahandja, Rundu, Rietfontein, Grootfontein, Swakopmund (Kramersdorf and Mondesa),  Mariental, Keetmanshoop, Ondangwa, Nkurenkuru, Ohangwena, Okahao, Etayi, Omahenene, Ongwediva, Oshakati, Katima Mulilo, Dordabis, Buitepos, Mururani, Drimiopsis, Corridor POS 13, Otjimanangombe, Ovinjuru, Rooidag, Leonardville, Onguari, Epukiro, and Aminius among other areas across the country.

By introducing additional LTE frequencies of 700 MHz and 800 MHz, these new base stations will not only expand network coverage but also significantly improve data speeds and overall network performance.
