Following the passing of Namibia's beloved President, Dr Hage Geingob, various industries stepped forward to support the Namibian Government during this time of national mourning. Telecom Namibia played a vital role by honoring requests for internet connectivity at key locations across Windhoek and other regions.

Telecom Namibia proudly provided a dedicated 200Mbps BizLink internet connection at Heroes Acre, facilitating the live streaming of memorial services and the funeral to a global audience. This robust connection empowered the National Broadcaster (NBC) to deliver high-quality coverage of the ceremony, ensuring all Namibians could participate in honoring their President.

Telecom Namibia deployed essential resources to various locations:

  • Heroes Acre: 200Mbps dedicated internet (existing equipment)
  • MICT Information Centre: 100Mbps dedicated internet (existing equipment)
  • Casa Rosalia: 20Mbps dedicated internet (New Connection)
  • Independence Stadium: 100Mbps MPLS connection from Nampol HQ (existing equipment)
  • Governor of Otjozondjupa's event at Mokati Stadium, Otjiwarongo: 20Mbps broadband internet
  • Governor of Kavango East's event at Rundu Sports Stadium, Rundu: 20Mbps broadband internet + 2 direct telephone lines

Through these efforts, Telecom Namibia contributed close to N$300,000 towards ensuring seamless communication and information sharing during this critical period.

"At Telecom Namibia, we understood the importance of internet connectivity for the public," explained Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, CEO of Telecom Namibia. "This support ensured that all Namibians could stay informed and participate in the national mourning, despite their location."

The Namibian Government, under the leadership of President Geingob, fostered a climate conducive to economic growth and development, particularly within the ICT sector. Telecom Namibia's actions served as a fitting tribute, utilizing the tools championed by the late President to connect all Namibians as they bid farewell to a visionary leader.
