Windhoek, 28 October 2019
Telecom Namibia customers paying via electronic fund transfer (EFT), will henceforth be limited to entering the right format and number of digits of the account number as reference when making payments.
This will ensure that customers no longer use reference types that are not eligible, and which result in delays in tracing and effecting payments.
As part of the measures to streamline its payment processes, Telecom Namibia recently acquired ‘Biller status’ from its banking service provider, Standard Bank Namibia. The Biller status places Telecom Namibia on the bank’s approved company beneficiaries list, which means customers can search for Telecom Namibia among registered corporates. It also restricts the use of incorrect referencing formats and prompts users to enter the correct referencing numbers.
Customers are reminded that EFT payments should meet the following criteria:
- Use of the 10-digit account number as reference, i.e. Format 0123456789
- References not in line with the expected numeric references will not be accepted by the system
- Clients who already have the correct reference number will be required to re-enter and save it for the reference to take effect
Residential and small business customers should use their account numbers as reference, while Corporate and Government clients must use their customer number, as they would have multiple account numbers linked to a customer number.
Telecom Namibia’s company beneficiary listing will take effect on 1 November 2019.
