WINDHOEK, 24 April 2014 - tn mobile, the mobile business unit of Telecom Namibia, today announced that it has partnered with the National Youth Council of Namibia (NYC) to implement a national youth card project, an initiative that aims to open the door to reductions on cultural activities, shops, transport and accommodation, and others.
The national youth card was unveiled last night in Windhoek during a fundraising dinner sponsored by tn mobile in honour of the 20th anniversary hosted of the NYC.
The event was witnessed by the NYC patron Pendukeni Emvula-Ithana, who is also Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, and Dr. Raimonde Agossou, a representative of the African Union Youth Division.
The youth body plans to distribute the first batch of the cards sponsored by tn mobile on National Youth Day slated for 26 April. The day is a great chance for young people to discover the services, supports and programmes available to youths between the ages of 16 and 35.
Armando Perny, Telecom Namibia’s Chief Mobile Officer (CMO), said: “To us, the idea of a national youth card is a viable strategic choice as a means to reach out to youth through, for example, an entitlement plan that provides access, incentives, and opportunities for greater engagement in economic, social and civic life for Namibian youth.”
The CMO said that tn mobile would give lower rates and promotions for products and services specifically targeted at young people, adding that the mobile operator would sell airtime to the NYC at discounted rates to allow young people across the country to on-sell these amongst their respective communities for a living.
Perny went on to note that tn mobile’s sponsorship of this programme sprung from its core belief and long-term strategy that the younger generation are in utmost need of support, to eventually grow and prosper their skills and capabilities within a community that holds unlimited potential.
He said the company will continue to support the youth in various ways like in education and training, nurturing entrepreneurship, sport development and employment opportunities.
The telecommunication giant had played a catalyst role in facilitating access to telecommunication service for a large section of the population through the introduction of innovative and cutting-edge products and solutions, tailored to the needs of each of our customers.
“In the process, we have enhanced the lifestyles of many young people in our country by providing broadband Internet services and access to social media applications such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and WhatsApp.”
Perny said that tn mobile’s support for the latest NYC programme clearly shows that tn mobile is a youth-oriented brand that is committed to identifying the potentials of our youth.
The company would continue to support similar projects that ensure the implementation of its various social commitments and at the same time ensures strengthening its relationship with the NYC and other agencies which organise notable national youth initiatives.
