Windhoek, Namibia – June 3, 2025 – In a pivotal step towards accelerating Namibia’s digital transformation, Dr. Audrin Mathe, Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), led a high-level delegation to Telecom Namibia’s Head Office. The delegation was welcomed by Dr. Stanley Shanapinda, CEO of Telecom Namibia, and his Executive Committee.

The visit reaffirmed a shared commitment to advancing the country's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) landscape. Discussions centered on deepening strategic collaboration to harness the synergies between MICT and Telecom Namibia for national development.

Key areas of focus included progress updates on several critical infrastructure projects—namely the OSS/BSS Billing System, Fixed Mobile Core, FTTX, and RAN (Radio Access Network) rollouts. These initiatives are integral to expanding and modernizing Telecom Namibia’s network infrastructure to meet growing connectivity demands.

Cybersecurity featured prominently in the discussions, with both parties emphasizing the urgent need to strengthen national data protection and establish resilient digital safeguards. As cyber threats evolve, so too must the nation’s capacity to defend against them.

Demonstrating its commitment to innovation, Telecom Namibia confirmed that all new mobile base stations currently being deployed are 5G-enabled. This forward-looking strategy ensures that Namibia remains at the forefront of next-generation mobile connectivity.

Looking ahead, MICT and Telecom Namibia discussed how to reach a national standard for entry-level broadband of a minimum of 25 Mbps for both download and upload speeds. This benchmark reflects their shared ambition to deliver equitable, high-speed connectivity to all Namibians, positioning the country for greater participation in the global digital economy.

To provide deeper insights into operations, the MICT delegation toured several of Telecom Namibia’s key facilities, including its state-of-the-art Data Centre and billing server room. The visit offered firsthand exposure to the infrastructure underpinning the country’s digital services.
