“Telecom Namibia and TN Mobile are glad to be part of the process to restore him to his former glory,” said Telecom Namibia Managing Director Frans Ndoroma at a media briefing today.

“We have always been passionate about boxing so it is a wonderful opportunity to pack a punch for the game. Many of our customers are fans of the fight game so they will enjoy the connection and share in the fun,” Ndoroma said.

The event is being promoted by the Harry Simon Onkugo Promotions (HSOP) with the official sanction of the Namibia Professional Boxing & Wrestling Control Board (NPBWCB).

“As part of our corporate responsibility, Telecom Namibia has continuously supported sports because of the role these activities play in the development of young people and by extension, our society. In this effort of promoting sports in our country, we have now been joined by the new kid on the block, TN Mobile,” he said.ACBRNPBWCB board member Ambrosius Kandjii, who doubles as constituency councilor for Katutura Central, applauded both Telecom Namibia and TN Mobile for injecting “big amounts” of money in boxing. He said the latter is a long-standing sponsor in the ‘sport of kings’.

HSOP spokesperson Anita Tjombe said they highly appreciate efforts by Telecom Namibia to help improve sports in the country. “We are grateful to receive this sponsorship and believe it will go a long way in uplifting the standard and quality of professional boxing in the country,” she added.

Ndoroma said Telecom Namibia, together with TN Mobile, is committed to sponsoring quality boxing events and tournaments as part of the Group’s ongoing efforts to develop national sport, adding that they expected the custodian of Namibian professional boxing, Namibia Professional Boxing & Wrestling Control Board, to play their part of ensuring and safeguarding the safety, health and general well-being of professional boxers.

He said that the Telecom Namibia Group will work closely with the Boxing Control Board, the Namibia Boxing Federation and all registered boxing promoters to promote and support the growth of boxing from development to high performance levels. “Throughout the many years of involvement with boxing, Telecom Namibia was able to nurture boxing talent, thereby producing world-class boxers in the process,” Ndoroma said.

“The event is on. Let the pugilists engage one another come 28 September,” the MD concluded.
