Two of Namibia’s leading entities, Telecom Namibia and the University of Namibia (Unam), have entered into an agreement that will allow both Parties to explore ways to strengthen their relationship and to foster co-operation aimed at promoting and strengthening, directly or indirectly, the field of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT).

Telecom Managing Director, Frans Ndoroma, and Prof Lazarus Hangula, Vice Chancellor of the University of Namibia, today participated in a ceremony in Windhoek to sign a Cooperation and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement calls for both Parties to the parties to identify the various areas upon which this co-operation will be based, especially in the areas of sharing of resources and infrastructure to achieve their common objective.

Frans Ndoroma said the signing event represents another important step forward in the longstanding tradition of cooperation between Telecom Namibia and the University of Namibia.

He added that the signing of the MoU would further solidify collaboration between the two parties in areas of shared interest, and provide a framework for implementing long-term cooperation to meet the growing need for IT and engineering skills required by the telecommunications industry and the national economy at large.

“This strategic Memorandum of Understanding in the areas of sharing resources and infrastructure is an example of an innovative and advanced example of cooperation between a business entity and an academic institution in fostering common goals in the field of ICT development in Namibia,” Ndoroma said

Under the terms of the MOU, which builds upon the long-standing relationship between the two Parties, representatives of Telecom Namibia and the University of Namibia will have the opportunity to explore and encourage further cooperation between the Parties, with the aim of identifying how Telecom Namibia and the University of Namibia could benefit from such cooperation. This work will be carried forward with action plans that will establish specific areas for cooperation over a renewable period of time.

Mr Ndoroma said he finds the partnership with the University of Namibia meaningful to Telecom Namibia’s goal of creating and proliferating ICT products and services to Namibians, and expressed the company’s “commitment for an enduring and successful partnership with Unam.”
